The answers should come from the parents if they are, as you say, children. Their passports probably wouldn't have been checked until the airline checked them. Blame the airline if the parents are to be, as usual, absolved of any responsibility for their own kids. And brainwashed by whom? Brainwashed isn't the same as radicalised.
None of them should
ever be allowed back in the country. They are a massive threat to national security and we should take a tough stance rather than let them back in. If they're let back in other young people will know that we're ridiculously liberal as a nation and there will be no consequences if they leave to join a terrorist organisation.
