I wouldn't see this as a hammer blow but I really do hate this when people accept the candidacy for a seat,are supported by their party, no matter which one it is, then do this.

These are the sort of people who should really think, should they ever really be in politics,how can you right up to an election being called, go through the process of being elected to represent a party, get chosen,have their full backing and then switch with any credibility.
It shows no level of loyalty whatsoever,therefore such people, I for one, would view with geat suspicion as to whether they could ever be trusted as to their word.
After wasting loads of party workers and members time in the process.
