Gum is not an addictive or controlled substance, why would anyone think to limit their intake?
If it contains a substance which could be seriously detrimental to health then there should be information provided that makes the consumer aware of that, being unaware of the facts does not make anyone a moron.
We are regularly told via advertising of sugar free gum to 'eat drink chew' IS the common sense thing to do after meals to neutralise plaque acids.

Too much of ANYTHING is harmful to health, including Water, Salt and Labour Voters

(Joke)
Seriously Kizzy, I think that 14 sticks of gum per day, each and every day,for God knows how long, is excessive, and this 'Death By Excess' is becoming more and more frequent, from 'Slimming Product' overdoses to 'Death By Chocolate', but surely, it should be common sense to know when something's excessive.
Anyway, it looks as if we have to print warning labels on everything, then so be it.
