I once said a similar thing to one of my closest friends, that I got the wrong impression of her when we first met. That wasn't me insulting her, it was me admitting that I jumped to conclusions before I truly knew her.
Chloe was essentially saying that she got the wrong impression of Aaron at first, that's all. It's a compliment because she's saying that, after getting to know him, she knows his personality is real. How Aaron interprets that as "rude" is beyond me.
