I view it in much the same way as I view the TiBB member nominations. Sure, we know the same people will get voted, week in, week out, but it's just a bit of fun and if people enjoy it then what's the problem. I don't always participate in the TiBB members nominations and I like having that choice.
If the karma was compulsary, then your argument would stand, but as it is optional, then I really don't see what the problem is. It's something you either want to participate in, or not. How can you police it? Would you put the hours into policing how people give and take karma and what for? Plus it's easy to evade that as well. Say for example an admin asked me to justify bumping up Barry's karma (when clearly I'm only doing it cuz he's my mate) - I could easily pick out a random post and state how good I found it to be.
At the end of the day G, karma is a personal opinion. It's another member's personal opinion of your posts. Just because you weren't here for a few days does not mean that there weren't members online reading through a thread containing one of your posts. Maybe they didn't like it. Just a theory. Obviously it's more likely that they did it for spite, but again, it brings me back to the question.....
"So what?"

Exactly!!
And for wiglet, I was the one who raised the point of reducing karma for spelling. It was meant as a joke to highlight how random the karma thing is and how it shouldn't be taken so seriously!! It was in a thread where people were saying they were turning karma off cos they weren't getting as much positive as they thought they would. My point was, people will take karma off for the stupidest reasons.
And I have never taken your karma off ever, in fact your posts are usually very well written. And I like to see the proper use of a good old semi colon as well!!
