Coupled with the fact that the guy responsible for her nonsensical nomination was the guy she has been nothing but a friend to.

You're right there. They used terrible "reasons" for both of their nominations (Eileen's age and Jack's gambling problems), and then used the "oh and they don't contribute" as a lazy back-up.
