This is my concern really, or rather, that accepting the windows 10 upgrade will invalidate my 8.1 retail serial. Although, it does say that you can upgrade after a year, so I could just leave it until my next motherboard/processor upgrade (early 2016 probably) and then do it. Hardware lock is tied to the motherboard, if there is one, and I suppose I'll just have to suck up the cost of a full retail copy before I change it again.

Still hoping it's like-for-like though and I get a retail serial for 10 in exchange for retail 8.1... it would only be fair! I mean, they owe me! I actually paid MONEY for Windows 8.1. A feat I never accomplished with Windows 7. Or XP. ...or 98 . I paid for those with Pieces of Eight. Arrrr...
