Helen is the one who goes after physical features. Joel is commenting on morality. As we all must to maintain an ordered society. Hence the reason for laws which are to some extent based on that morality.

Then you have a serious inability to make distinctions. What Helen does is not merely insulting, it is intimidating and threatening.

Joel saying being polyamorous is morally wrong is as bad as Helen going after a person's insecurities and trying to make that person feel small whilst jabbing a finger in that person's face in an aggressive manner.
