He has a masters in Chemistry I think, but he may not necessarily be working in a chemistry based role in his lab job. The lab skills obtained from most science degrees can be applicable to a broad range of various lab positions, it wouldn't always have to be the subject you specialised in as the company will usually train you up the way they want you anyways.
