It is EXACTLY the same as racism and homophobia, ive seen people being picked on and hit because they were fat and were not seen to fit into the "norm". I think the posts were removed though and thats why there are none here now. Honestly cant believe people can complain about one bias and yet play down another, there plenty of reasons being fat may not be down to choice and some people may claim being gay is.
It's absolutely nothing like the same. Racism and homophobia aren't 'biases', they're callous, malicious hatreds. People who are overweight eat too much, and that's personal choice. It's not a gene thing, it's a cheeseburger and cream cake thing. There's a term for people who claim being gay is 'a choice' - they're known as homophobes.

When George Michael was fat in the 1980s, nobody cared. But since he was outed, it's been almost impossible to read even a single paragraph about him that doesn't make a facile reference to his sexuality. There have been numerous racially motivated murders in recent years. I can't recall a single person being murdered because they were overweight. African-Caribbean people are six times more likely to be stopped and searched by the police than white people, and Asians twice as likely [Socialist Worker]. Funnily enough, there aren't any similar stats for overweight people. We could be here all day, but it would be as pointless as arguing the toss with the Flat Earth Society.
If you honestly believe all overweight people are so because they chose to be fat then maybe you should research further into weight issues, there are many ways in which genetics affects a person's weight and everyone has a different metabolism. Saying fat people chose to be fat is as ill informed as saying gay people chose to be gay and even if it were by choice it doesnt make slagging off fat people any less callous and malicious.

Then again I guess I should be bothered at all with this discussion as I am neither gay nor overweight and its completely off topic.
