I just find it so ludicrous that you could think that that is a reasonable punishment for something as small as putting their phone on. If they do use it they are affecting no one but themselves. If someone has their phone out in class, they should be asked to put it away THAT is a reasonable response,
If caught with it again then the phone should be taken off them intill end of class or end of day
