Default Ben Frow (controller of Channel 5)'s Edinburgh TV Festival session.

He speaks about Big Brother at 6:41.

UPDATE: I've just finished watching. A very interesting session. I admire the fact that he is quite direct and knows what he wants out of Channel 5 in the near future. I'm also quite excited to see what the re-brand will look like!

Some key points from the session:

- He wants to chance the perception that people have of Channel 5.
- Viacom are quite different to Desmond (more PC).
- He was uncomfortable watching Katie Hopkins, but loved Perez.
- He was also uncomfortable with Helen Wood, going as far to say that she's "a bad person" and that she was banned from "any other bits".
- The benefits shows on Channel 5 are not about exploiting people and enhancing stereotypes, they're about showing the human side of living with benefits with integrity at the heart of the programme.
- He says that at one point they hade to make a decision as to whether they should go for a digital audience or to really compete with the other main broadcasters (they chose the latter).
- He says that Channel 5 "doesn't want to re-invent the wheel" - instead they look at what works and how they can utilise programmes.
- He says that people who have negative opinions of the channel should "watch the channel, look at the listings and make a judgement".
- There will be less benefits programmes this year, as the trend in programming will move forward.
- Channel 5 will "evolve" over the next few years.
- The upcoming Channel 5 refresh will herald "a new Five" - rebrands for C5, 5USA and 5*. Spike will remain the same.
