Default Hey Arnold! To Return

Hey Arnold! is set to return to our screens.

Variety reports that Nickelodeon is developing a TV movie that will pick up where the original series ended, and solve mysteries such as the whereabouts of Arnold's parents.

And it might not just be Arnold making a comeback, with the network naming Chris Viscardi as senior vice president of content development for franchise properties. This new role will see Viscardi mine Nickelodeon's library to develop new shows for modern audiences.

"Kids who grew up on these characters are now of the age that they are having kids and families themselves. Our library has come to fruition and it's time for it to start coming back to life," commented Russell Hicks, president, content development and production, Nickelodeon Group.

The revivals aren't necessarily aimed at bringing fans back to the network, but that could be a side-effect. "You have to remember people who are going to watch really don't have a recollection of Hey Arnold!," added Hicks. "You have to make it relevant to them but also nod to the audience that is going to be interested."

Hey Arnold! creator Craig Bartlett will be writing and executive producing the new TV movie. Viscardi noted that the network is reaching out to other creators of classic shows in the hope of working with them as well.

Nickelodeon recently launched The Splat!, a primetime and overnight block of classic programming on its Teen Nick cable network.

Back in September, it was reported that shows such as Rugrats and Ren & Stimpy, along with Hey Arnold!, were to appear in team-up movie Nicktoons.

Hey Arnold! ran between 1996 and 2004, as well as having a big screen outing in 2002.
