The Strictly 2015 Xmas line up was revealed earlier this year with six past stars taking part in the festive special on Christmas day.

The show is pre-recorded at London's Elstree Studios and this year will be hosted by Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly, the BBC has confirmed today.

While Sir Brucie quit the main show last year he was still expected to return for the festive special but a recent operation has ruled him out.

"The Strictly Christmas special, which records next week, will be too early for Sir Bruce Forsyth to have made a full recovery from his recent operation," the BBC said in a statement.

They added: "Due to the long studio hours, he is unable to host the show but will still play a part in the production."

It's understood that Sir Bruce will not appear in the show in person but will instead record a special video message for the celebrities taking part and viewers watching.

Those taking part are Winner of series 12 Abbey Clancy, Series 12 contender Alison Hammond, Series 9 winner Harry Judd, winner of The People's Strictly special Cassidy Little, winner of Series 6 Tom Chambers and runner up of the same year, Lisa Snowdon.

The Strictly Christmas special will air Christmas Day on BBC One.

I will most definitely watch it now. Thank God Bruce stayed retired we have a guy in Ireland who retired years ago and keeps popping up for other shows that he is presenting. He needs to put his feet up and give other new presenters a chance
