Actually Jim is a great guy and this was a well deserved and I have to say surprising result.
This is how the result had to go for Labour to have credibility electorally,it is a safe seat but in by elections safe seats terminology often has meant little.
This is a really good addition to the Labour party in Westminster and Jim is one of the friendliest and nicest people around.

As to UKIP, well this is a terrible result for them, it was a day where only one by election was being held, they should have if they are serious contenders in Labour seats, made much greater headway into Labour's majority,in fact vote wise,Labour increased the gap between them and UKIP from may this year.

Sour grapes from UKIP and yes, they were 2nd,they have supplanted the Lib Dems and Conservatives as to moving into 2nd place in a number of Labour seats but that is where their advance ends.
Second not likely to be first.

It is a while that there has been a by election that has gone how it usually should, the opposition party doing well, the govt party losing votes and really little or no challenge from any other party in the seat, that is how this one has gone.
Really well done to Jim,a great guy, a great result and hopefully a good and strong quick future advancement in the party now as a Labour MP
