Okay, for a moment (if you please) imagine this for me.
Someone goes up to a disabled child on the street and starts calling them all the names under the sun about their condition, pushing them about etc.
They're free to do that, because they're "telling it how it is"? There is a line, Charley occasionally steps over it.
Edit: I wasn't saying Charley would do the example, I was just suggesting an extreme example of how the phrase 'telling it how it is' could be taken.
