Endemol planning major extension to Big Brother UK house

Big Brother UK producers Endemol Shine have applied to build a huge new extension to the show’s Elstree Studios house for the 2016 series, in what would be its biggest renovation since it was first built in 2002.
According to planning documents submitted to Hertsmere Borough Council, bosses want to extend the north-east side of the house building onto land currently used for the exterior eviction set.
As illustrated in the floorplan below, the new construction would add almost 700 square metres of living space – comprising 488sqm of interior rooms, and a 186sqm second garden with its own pool – surrounded by 165sqm of additional camera runs.
Interestingly, one document refers to the new area as the ‘2nd House’ – suggesting that a twist involving two separate houses may be in store for the upcoming seventeenth civilian run.
In addition to the house extension, chiefs also want to build a new exterior set and interview studio, noting that the current structure is “unsuitable for use in bad weather conditions”.
