Default Gregg's Axes 355 jobs and closes a quarter of its bakeries

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/busines...-close-7469872

Greggs are planning to axe 355 jobs and shut three of its 12 bakeries in the UK.

The high street favourite, which has long been celebrated as a real British business success story, made the announcement today following a reorganisation.

The bakeries set to be closed are in Sleaford in Lincolnshire, Twickenham, and Edinburgh.

No shops are planned to close - in fact the chain wants to open another 300 stores.

The focus of the business has swung to food-on-the-go and away from traditional baking since a 2013 rejig, which is the source of the shift, insiders say.

Greggs says that a £100m investment will make the Clydesmill bakery in Glasgow into a "centre of excellence", as well as upgrades for the Enfield bakery in London.

Following this restructure, the company is keen to extend shop fronts for customers from the current 1,700 to 2,000.
