They would have got turned inside out even with their strongest side.
Spurs are a poor side in European terms so they benefit from not putting out their best side. They will fair better by concentrating on getting into European competition for a few years running and learning the ropes rather than going balls to the wall and losing and in the process tiring out/injuring players that could have helped them qualify for next seasons European competitions.
