I remember reading that Scream 4 was written as a way to set up a new trilogy and they had 5 and 6 planned out before 4 was even made, and they gave 4 a seemingly definitive ending as a sort of red herring, like there was more going on than they gave away during the movie that would be revealed later. I'd love to at least know what they originally had planned for 5 and 6, but the fact that they've never said makes me think they might still consider making them
