I'd consider it a terrible joke done in awful taste. I believe people should be allowed to be as awful as they want in terms of opinions. If someone wants to be racist or homophobic or whatever, let them. Let them bare the consequences when it costs them their careers and ruins their live. It's a civil and societal issue, not a police one.
I just don't think it's a police matter unless it actually incites violence and puts someone at risk.
