I guess we now know why there's been no word of a Season 4 renewal yet. That was
the finale of the show. As sad as that is since this is a phenomenal show, I had worried that it would be cancelled abruptly and end without a resolution but they were clearly writing this as an ending.
My jaw dropped when Vanessa died. I sort of expected it because I'd seen a headline on a site earlier saying something like "SPOILER dies!" and I read somewhere else about it feeling like a final episode so I figured it had to be a big chararcter and Vanessa is the main protagonist after all, but still when it happened I was still shocked. Vanessa Ives has to be one of the most tragic characters I've seen on screen and Eva Green has been phenomenal.
When she died, I started thinking that this must be the end because I can't picture a show without Vanessa but it was only when "The End" appeared on screen that it really hit that this was it. I'm just so glad they gave everything a real feeling of finality, even as early as the Lily / Dorian scene I was thinking how much it felt like they were ending the story because of how fitting it seemed (Lily finally leaving Dorian and that last shot of him standing there saying "I'll always be here").
I guess The Creature ends up alone again in the end since his wife told him to not return if he doesn't go to Frankenstein to bring their son back and he chose to bury him at sea instead. Really sad since he'd spent this season to reunite with his family but fitting for the character.
I wish the show continued on because there were so many other stories that could have been told and to suddenly have it all end and wrap up did feel a little quick and rushed in places but it was apparently John Logan's decision for this season to be the end so I'm just glad the show got a real ending. It's been amazing, I'm definitely gonna miss it.
