I don't know what went on with Charlie and Jason before they were housemates, but I get the feeling that Jason is one of those men who hates to make women cry or hurt their feelings. That is why he is not being cruel and blunt with Charlie.
I don't beleive Charlie has mistaken Jason's feelings for her. It sounds as if bad feeling built up over the five months they were together, with Jason hoping things would get better, but Charlie being jealous of anyone/thing who took his attention away from her.
She admitted herself that she craves constant attention and just won't listen to criticism. Jason has tried quite a few times to make it clear that their is no relationship anymore, but would like friendship, especially whilst they are in the house.
If Charlie keeps on at him, he will either have to be bluntly honest or leave the house.
