She was the one crawling back to him. I'm sure if someone you had feelings for kept coming back to you, you'd find it hard to be harsh to them. Ziggy is just too nice a guy. The only way he could have resolved it was to be brutal to her - and that's just not his personality.

On the contrary he was brutal to her by leading her on. He would make up one moment and then go and tell others how uncertain he is about her and she is to young for him.
A man a real man would have cut the strings from such a young girl. He is old enough to know weakness is fatal..There is no excuse for Ziggy man's behavour....He is not a man he is a manipulator and a mouse of a man....
