We have loads of different style mugs etc but we always tended to buy he kids a mug as a stocking filler a small kids, used of find something unusual that was special to them etc. So I think it stemmed from there. Daughter keeps her eye out for mugs for us now, normally something either Sam Toft or teddybear related for me.
I have 2 identical medium size Nina Campbell China mugs with little pink hearts on at the minute, woe betide anyone that dares to use them.
