I feel very sad for him that a man of his age feels such an embarrassing need, when most people manage to leave this behind in childhood. And I feel sadder still that he has been unable to recognise or develop any other ways of interacting in the adult world. Something has gone very wrong along the way in terms of his mental and emotional development, so I guess he deserves to be pitied.

Perfectly sums him up and how and why the others would not enable or overly react to his antics. It's what he needs to be of any real interest. Either an enabling crew or the knowledge he can cause reactions which show others in a negative light. Showing no reaction to his infantile pranks changes everything eventually. The pranks in isolation with no reaction would become tumbleweed moments. I don't think the others will totally manage it and I doubt Renee will but without any reaction, he is a very tedious man child.
