To be fair the phrase 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' could've (and should've) been applied when they originally decided to discount C&G posts, it wasn't always like this

It's not something I lose sleep over and only remember or care when the question is brought up again but it doesn't make it any less stupid. A post count is just that, a tally of the number of posts you've made on a forum (this could arguably even include deleted posts tbh). If you start discounting whole swathes of posts then it's not a genuine figure, and it makes all of the awards that are given out pretty ridiculous when you think about it cause the 10k one is probably for like 12,726 posts I'm sure when shops or theme parks award their 'millionth visitor' or something they haven't discounted a bunch of people who loitered or didn't buy anything or whose contribution wasn't deemed worthy enough. TV shows don't discount filler episodes or ones they didn't like in hindsight when they celebrate a 'hundredth episode'. It's all exactly the same, either count the actual number of something or it's pointless
