According to Daily Mail columnist Charles Sale the 34-year-old has spoken to his mentor Neil Burns who has told him to focus on getting his game together first, as he aims for a return to first-class cricket with Northants next season.
Panesar's appearance on the show would be particularly surprising given his well-documented mental health problems, triggered by the break-up of his marriage in 2013.
Former England international spinner Tufnell became a national treasure way back in 2003 when he won the show.
