Surely the most effective method will be the one that parts your bottom cheeks the most allowing your hand and toilet tissue to wipe the maximum surface area. That having been said I have never heard of anyone standing up as surely that presses the cheeks together and spreads the faeces more making a right mess? Also if you stand up and your garments are gathered at your shins there is a potential that you could topple over and further complicate the situation with smearing and injury? As interesting aside to this debate would be do you think that in 50 years toilet paper will still be the exact same or will the whole defection process will have moved on?
