The story doesnt worry me, the chance of the story having some sort of snowball effect in the future does a bit. Think we're fine for now though.

This is true, it's really not all that bad. Of course it could change in the future but that's the same for anything so there's not point worrying over speculation. I think it's just a case of security forces catching up with the modern world, so many people have so much of their lives online whereas they didn't used to so I just see it as an
adjustment of how they could monitor us... we've always been monitored. And peoples personal details can always be misused, whether it's the tax office, or your HR department, or the many other places and people that could potentially access your personal information, but like Dezzy said there'll be safeguards here like there is for those other places, it isn't really a new thing that agencies can access information on you though (and you can always make sure you don't share your personal information over the internet if it's something that does worry you).
