I don't really see the cake and eat it argument. We signed up once for a single market. Maastricht changed the whole thing and the people in the UK were never consulted. It had to be forced through parliament via dodgy dealings. With regard the request to safeguard UK and EU citizens rights and put minds at rest. The PM is taking the moral high ground here and Merkel is looking like a dictator of Europe.

I mean why not just take these people's lives out of the negotiations?
Unless of course the EU are planning on trying to use them to further their position.Theresa May was trying to do the right thing.
