Indian acting great Om Puri has sadly passed away at the age of 66.
The star suffered a heart attack while returning home from a film set on Thursday, according to Indian media reports.
The prolific actor won praise for his portrayal of strict but loving father of seven George Khan in British Film East Is East, and was nominated for a Best Actor BAFTA.
News of his death was announced by Bollywood director Ashoke Pandit, who said that he was "sad and shocked" to hear of the actor's passing.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a host of Bollywood stars, including Amitabh Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra, have the led tributes to the actor, whose career spanned four decades.
The actor appeared in the critically-acclaimed television adaptation of White Teeth in 2002 and was awarded an honorary OBE in 2004.
More recently, the Bollywood icon starred in comedy The Hundred-Foot Journey alongside Dame Helen Mirren in 2014.
