Yeah, all "American Accents" are basically a mash up of various European and a few other global accents, with different influences in different areas, and Irish plays a large role in the standard "Hollywood" (white American) accent. They draw out their vowels in the same way, etc.

[edit] Although... I've never heard an American actor pull off a convincing Irish accent... ever...
