As terrible as the thing was, he got his wish and it would have been sadder to see it happen to anyone else considering he threatened to leave 4 times, tried to break the door down and had a tantrum in the DR.
Haven't got a lot of sympathy for him.
Karma and all. This could happen if you moan about being in there.
