I do believe the prefabs are the way forward but they don't come without problems.
The disadvantage of not owning the land your house resides on means it is not deemed to be your property in the full sense of the law therefore only has a right of tenure under the 1983 Mobile Homes Act. If you come to sell the property you could find the site owner vetoing over who the home is sold on to and can they afford the often expensive pitch fee. The site owner is also allowed by law to charge the seller 10% of the house sale.
There are a lot of disputes going on between site owners and park home owners. At the moment, it seems that the land owner has all the clout. Laws need implementing to give the home owner more protection.
