It's really obvious to anyone who knows them that they deliberately avoid being affectionate with each other in public, because of reactions they've had in the past. They've never been physically attacked but have had comments and plenty of dirty looks. Surely we should be moving past this by now??

I can attest to that, you just feel like it's not worth the risk because you never know who might be looking your way and how they'll react.
