Philosophically? I agree; the planet is grossly overpopulated with human beings. Economically, this just isn't true, the population needs to maintain steady growth or at the very least remain constant. An aging / declining population is impossible to maintain in economic terms. Aging population is at the very core of Japan's (quite significant) economic issues, for example.
Lower the native birth rate and you need to up immigration. And we know that
no one wants that...
