I don't think in these cases it's even about "Fame"... not in the Hollywood / Pop sense. People like Hopkins and Morgan wouldn't be happy with, say, being a triple-platinum music star or an A-list actor even if that meant being the most well-known they could be. What they want is to "feel important"... so getting a huge vocal reaction is vital. Doesn't matter to them if it's applause and back-patting or outrage and attacks. They get both, and they thrive on both.
