It's diesel AND petrol they're talking about Arista. A full switch away from fossil fuels. And they're not talking about banning them from 2040... It would just be that no new petrol or diesel vehicles would be manufactured past that date. Probably very few on the road by 2060. Think I'll be on my way out by then, anyway
