We won't win with troops in Iraq or Afghanistan, I agree...mostly.
Although that doesn't vouch for the many years before we had troops over there. And that of course isn't the only reason.

Even Terry Wogan who commentates on the Eurovision every year for us is well aware that the voting is based on the countries relations to one another, it's common knowledge. Past history, politics, old alliances, countries that help eachother economically etc etc.

However, don't forget we have won with Lulu and many years later, Katrina and the Waves.
So it's more than possible =] since we have won on more than one occasion.

I think two problems are:

1. The fact we have no neighbouring countries, unless you count Ireland.

2. We have a reputation throughout the world, mainly thanks to Tony Blair, but also a reputation for being sarcastic and miserable.
