I think he realises that now he knows her better. All he has said is that he wants to take her for dinner, he hasn't asked her to be his girlfriend, or kissed her or anything. They have just been flirty, she has been more flirty with him than he has with her. It hasn't been a showmance or even a romance, thank goodness. One was enough.
