Sometimes you picture people to look a certain way, but then they look completely different. I find it quite hard to tell though, especially as avatars/banners aren’t normally much of a giveaway. The cool thing about a forum is that you judge people solely on their personalities to begin with though, which I love and which is the entire point.

Having said that though, the people I’ve become friends with on here have all seen me numerous times and are familiar with what I look like. I get on with some who aren’t quite comfortable doing the same, but that depends on your level of comfort since everyone’s different… generally it goes both ways.
