If you post in the chat thread, there are always people that will chat back to you and after a few days, you're considered to be a piece of the furniture. Just have the confidence to come in and make yourself known tbh. Every single person who posts in there was new to the environment once. I guess it doesn't help that it seems that people have their own language in there, but it's in no way noninclusive.
