I dislike the idea of calling paedophilia a sexual preference since it's a common argument to compare non-hetero sexualities to things like paedophilia and bestiality in order to demonise gay/bi people.

As Withano said, I'd be more inclined to call it a vile fetish.

As for the topic, I'm not sure that a peadophile that has already tried to prey on someone can be 'fixed' but then I know little of the treatment process so I can't really judge. I'm just thinking of it like how serial killers actions tend to escalate as they go from killing insects and animals and then humans. I don't think it's possible to deescalate it but then again I'm equating two different criminal mindsets like they are the same.
