Their festive TV specials were sure to have households around the UK tuning in.

And now it has been reported that legendary comedic duo Morecambe and Wise will be trying their hand once again to stir audiences on Christmas Day with a new holiday offering, Eric & Ernie's Home Movies on the BBC.

The late comedians - who enjoyed a career spanning 40 years together until Morecambe's death in 1984 - famously finished each of their sketch show series with a Christmas special from 1969 to 1980 - bar 1974.

Setting the benchmark for Christmas specials in years to come, the pair pulled in an impressive 28million viewers with their festive offerings - which showcased their impeccable comedic timing, quick wit and side-splitting parodies.

According to the Daily Star, their upcoming jolly TV instalment will include interviews with pals of Ernie and his wife Doreen as well as Eric's other half Joan and their children Gary, Gail and Steven.

The special will follow the pair's rise to fame and their humble beginnings when they first met in impresario Jack Hylton’s variety show in 1939, aged 13.

According to the publication, the one-off will feature previously unseen clips of the pair and showcase key moments in their personal lives.
