This story is a good example of highlighting why 'freedom of speech' doesn't always mean 'say whatever you want without facing consequences', and that punishing someone for saying something outrageously inciteful isn't 'PC gone mad' as is so often claimed.

He was inciting a serious violent criminal offence - not quite the same as having the freedom of speech to be able to, for example, openly criticise backward misogynistic religions.
