What are you studying? If you're going to be referencing academic journals, in most cases you can just read the Abstract and Summary, for the first year anyway. They like it when you use direct quotes though, so it might be an idea to skimread the articles, or at least Ctrl+F to look for key words. Referencing in the text itself is always Blah Blah (Name, Year) or According to Name (Year) Blah Blah or similar.
