I haven't read much of it, just glanced, but I noticed there was something about the number of people considering them to be suffering from mental disorders to be high... maybe that has something to do with it. At a guess I'd also assume that some people might worry about their social standing in general - being seen with a transsexual, worrying about what their other friends and/or family might think. If other people might think they were in a sexual relationship with them. Or fear that a transsexual person might try and have sex with them. I don't know there's probably a bunch of reasons.
edit to add: I doubt a significant number of people would have had experiences of transactivists tbh
