Funny story actually. My whole life I’d never been sleepwalking. But then in the summer when I went to Africa for a month, I had an interesting experience. Basically I got ill, which was inevitable in the circumstances, and felt sick, ill and had a fever/cold. I was also taking some malaria tablets which have a record of giving you very odd dreams. As a result, one night whilst still ill I fell asleep in the tent and had a really vivid dream where in it I was actually being sick for one reason or another. I got out of my sleeping bag and then the tent still wearing my thermals and headed outside.

In normal circumstances, I’d have known full well where to go (just straight ahead) but because I was half asleep I walked for ages into an African bush with really prickly leaves! Basically out in the wilderness where God knows what could have been. Thinking about it, it’s so surreal, and I can’t believe I put myself into that situation. Luckily those in the tent with me came looking for me pretty much straightaway and eventually took me back to the tent. Because I only really remember part of it, and walked in completely the opposite direction, I must have been sleepwalking.
