They did demand proper answers but he offers a choice of two answers (which is not a good interview technique; it's a "gotcha" journalist tactic); specifically he says:
"[I am asking] what Labour's policy on illegal immigrants is"...
(A fair question, and one that she SHOULD be able to answer coherently, but he then follows up with - )
"Do you think they should be removed from the country OR should they be allowed to stay here?"
...he's suggesting that she has to pick ONE of these options to apply to ALL illegal immigrants. Which is a
gross oversimplification, and I wouldn't indulge him by being pushed into "picking" one of his answer either. An interview isn't a multiple choice questionaire... and it's completely valid to point out that the issue is far more nuanced than that. In some cases they should be removed, in others they should have their circumstances examined further
